Latino Government Officials on the Most Pressing Issues for Latino Residents

Updated: 2 minutes ago

Latinos make up approximately 20% of the U.S. population, with over 31 million eligible to vote. Across all levels of government, over 7,000 Latino elected or appointed officials represent the unique and diverse interests, priorities, and life experiences of the Latino community. Given the magnitude of the population and the Latino community's influence on the nation, it is critical to understand the sociopolitical priorities of the community.

In April 2025, CivicPulse partnered with the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund to survey both elected officials and civil service leaders who identify as Latino or Hispanic and who serve or have served in local, state, or federal government. This short report presents the relative ranking of the pressing issues facing Latino/Hispanic residents according to the survey of Latino/Hispanic government officials.¹ We then provide a more in-depth look at the three most pressing issues—economic development, housing, and immigration—before concluding and providing a brief appendix with a description of the survey sample and the coding methodology.
