In March 2018, CivicPulse surveyed 713 elected officials and legislative staff about gun control measures. The survey came a few weeks after the shooting at Parkland High School in Florida, when debates over gun policy re-entered the national conversation. Because of gridlock at the national level, many local and state officials believe that they have to act if they want any changes. Many regulations relating to guns are passed at the state and local level, such as Florida’s allowance of armed school guardians and Lincoln, Nebraska’s ban on bump stocks.
The chart below allows you view the support that various gun laws have among Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. All of the respondents were elected officials or staff at the local or state level. You can select from six proposed gun laws by clicking on the blue box and choosing one of the policies.
